Professional Golf: DR Open 2014, in Casa de Campo
La Romana, Dominican Republic.- The 5th edition of the Dominican Republic Professional Golf Open (DR Open 2014) is being played (from May 12-18) in the Teeth of the Dog course of the famous resort Casa de Campo (La Romana). For the third consecutive year, the tournament is part of the PGA Latin America Tour (NEC Series Tour). It is organized by the Dominican Golf Federation (FEDOGOLF) with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and has an attractive bag of prizes of US$ 150,000.
Honoring its new campaign of “The Sporting Life”, this year Casa de Campo opened its doors so that the fans of this sport can enjoy the tournament in which more than 140 golf stars from some 20 countries are participating, among them from the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Puerto Rico.
In the framework of the tournament, May 14 saw the 3rd Extolling Ceremony of the Dominican Golf Hall of Fame that recognizes the immortal figures of this sport, including outstanding designer Pete Dye, member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, who is considered the most influential architect of gold courses in the last 60 years. Dye designed the four Casa de Campo courses, including the Teeth of the Dog, number one in Latin America.
For the first time the DR Open is being held in Casa de Campo (World’s Best Golf Resort in the World Travel Awards for seven years in a row), a complex which this edition is paying tribute to on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its foundation and for its great contribution to the development of national golf.
“There’s no better place to determine the champion in the Dominican Republic of the DR Open 2014 as Casa de Campo,” affirmed the resort’s CMO, Peter Bonell, who added that this is the country’s most important golf championship and that is why it will be held in the Dominicans’ pride golf course: the Teeth of the Dog, a master work of the legendary designer Pete Dye.
Juan Cohen and Rafael Canario, president and executive vice president of the FEDOGOLF, said this is an event to see and enjoy due to the quality of the players. They greatly appreciated the possibility that Casa de Campo offers golf fans of being able to attend the competition in the challenging Teeth of the Dog, where the best Latin American athletes and more than 30 U.S. players are trying to move up to.
